Course Overview:

This immersive weekend course is designed for those looking to explore draping as a creative tool, moving beyond the technical to discover shape, volume, and silhouette through fabric on the stand. Whether you're starting out or returning to develop a personal project, you'll be supported to express ideas and explore instinctive making in a structured yet playful environment.

Perfect for anyone who enjoys working in 3D, this course introduces creative draping through guided exercises, experimentation, and one-to-one feedback. You'll work at your own pace, with the freedom to push ideas while building a deeper understanding of shape, balance, and construction.

This course is also suitable for students who have previously taken any of Amy’s courses and would like to return to work on a specific idea or creative drape with her support.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to approach creative draping on the stand

  • Ways to manipulate fabric to build shape, volume, and form

  • Translating abstract or instinctive ideas into resolved silhouettes

  • Principles of pinning, grain, and balance through creative exploration

  • How to develop your drape into a usable pattern or toile

  • Individual feedback and guidance tailored to your ideas and skill level

What You’ll Get:

• Space to explore your own design ideas with technical and creative support
• A deeper understanding of silhouette, proportion, and construction through draping
• Patterns or toiles to take home
• Studio photos of your work (optional, great for portfolios)

Progression:
This course is a natural next step for anyone who’s completed our technical draping weekend, but it's also open to Amy's past students who are ready to explore their creativity further, perhaps through a sketch or design they want to bring to life. Whether you're here to play or to push a specific idea forward, you’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and inspiration.
